Vibrations – April 2nd EditionWritten By: Kelli Leitner
To those of you who follow my blog and or magazine article, I say thanks. Over the Easter weekend I had a prodigiously prosperous weekend. I really enjoyed my second life to the point of an orgasmic experience. Once upon a time it was written that music soothes the savage beast. What if you are not savage, but a woman of refinement? What if your very existence speaks in volumes of class? At that point the music doesn’t calm. It does something else. Music and the feelings that ensue, evoke something magical, something deep, something soul filled and perhaps orgasmic. For it was in the music I found divine delight and in the personal connections that complimented each of my endeavors on my weekend concert whirlwind. It was an experience that the ancient Greeks would have written about had they been able to share my experience this Easter Weekend. Let me share with you my story. It is a story of personal connections to the people and their music. I had time to attend many concerts over the weekend and interview many of the artists. Let me share with you their story as well through my eyes. As we begin out trip over the rainbow and one that Dorothy herself probably couln’t even imagine.
I was suddenly swooped up and on a trip around the grid searching for magical moments and I found just that. One of the artists I found was Wildstar Writer performing at the “Light Tower Social Club”. He is from Sweden but his sound was out of this world. He has a blues rift tone to his music and plays tunes from the 1960’s on up to present. If you want to check out his music or what he’s all about you can find more info at http://www.carpediemmc.se/wildstar/start.htm.
He is a multi talented musician who started on the piano but also plays the guitar. He hung his guitar up for about 15 years and has recently taken it down off the wall and has emerged on the music scene here in SL. In my interview with Wildstar he really conveyed to me that he picked his guitar up again purely for his inner happiness. It was interesting to learn that his musical inspirations were “The Rolling Stones”, “Stevie Wonder” and a lot of “David Bowie” as he puts it. I can definitely say that I can hear that mixture in his music. He does play some cover music and he plays them with his own unique sound. If you get a chance to see him live he does take requests. So you may get to hear one of your favorite tunes. When I asked what his personal favorite was, he stated “Jacob’s Dream with Allison Kraus”. I also learned that Wildstar does in game photography and wow you should see some of his work. Give him a ring if you are looking for an artist with a good sound or even a good eye for photography.
As I was blown around the by chance and nothing more I continued along my travels seeking great music. I did happen upon many places but a few of them caught my eye or ear enough to write about them except for these exceptionally talented individuals I rave about here in my article.
I went to Mystic Seaport in Darcy Manor and enjoyed “Reno Segall” and his County/Blues rock. For me that was unusual because I am not a fan of country music. I do however enjoy that southern rock blues sound occasionally. At first I thought I was not going to enjoy this with the country sound. Surprisingly he had a nice sound. The show was enjoyable and there were even fireworks that really enhanced the ambiance of this wonderful performance. Reno was very individually engaging and really reaches out to his fans by name during his concert in song. He had the crowd really into his music but feeling relaxed. If you are looking for great live music to really relax with I suggest Reno. Watch your stress just fade away.
I proceeded as if drawn to this destination on my musical journey seeking the next great show and came upon “Kijiji the Village”. I really enjoyed the scenery in Kijiji. It really was a beautiful place and it was here that I found Mike00 Carnell jamming on his electric guitar. If you want to be thrilled by some talent on guitar with an awesome electric guitar sound then I shout at you to check Mike out. I was wooed by the guitar and I would certainly add him in a second to any rock band I had that needed a guitarist. He is one of the best guitarists I have heard in SL, but I would employ a different singer.
His born to be wild rendition was wild to say the least. A fabulous electric body shaking heart throbbing sound that I still cannot forget. I have to go see him again just for his magic with the guitar. There is talent out there and then there is better than talent and Mike Carnell is better than talent wow.
He hails from Germany and I could tell he was holding back. I can’t even imagine how awesome he would be if he let loose on guitar. Go check him out. I highly recommend him if you are an electric guitar lover. You will hear a hint of “Eddie VanHalen” in his sound.
And so I digress on my fantastical journey to Metropolis Unknown to “The Old Barn The Music Venue”. I found a really eclectic place, fitting what I have read about the 1960’s and flower power with peace love and dope, but without the dope (thank goodness). There she was in the corner singing and playing away. It was “Shannon Oherlihy” on acoustic guitar playing a clear sounding folk music. She has a very talented voice. If you are in to folk music with great vocals then check her out. Her finger tingling of the strings is only accented further by her voice. I liked the barn feel for a concert. I could certainly see a great backwater smoky rock blues band in there in the future, so check out the venue. I would say all it needs is a poker game going in the corner to be RL.
So down the tunnel I continued to fall like “Alice in Wonderland”. When I arrived at “Tully High” at the Los Angeles Yacht Club to see U2- Need I say any more.
The stage was the most amazing stage, the drums a blaze on fire, the movements all eye catching and of course Bono was clear in voice and the band had a great look. What a visual set up. It made my eyes dance and my heart throb in sync with the drum at every twist and turn in the music. It was a Saturday afternoon outing that really made the day. Everyone was out to see them. It’s U2 so who wouldn’t want to be there. The house was packed with over 40 people. After the show I was still all jazzed up and certainly excited, especially since I was invited backstage for an exclusive interview with the guys. Check out this interview if you really want to get a back stage look into the rock roll world in SL. Here is some of that interview.Check out some info on this band at:http://sites.google.com/site/rockvegasshow

It was fun thanks.
This was a really inspiring interview for me. The guys were great and friendly. They really pal around with each other and they love what they do in SL. They are a class act and really go all out to perform. I really had fun at this concert and was able to let my hair down and live in the show. The show did end and I did move on as I so now sadly must with my story.
Next on my haphazzard itinerary, experiencing a dream coat of colors exposing myself to bands from all over. I took a trip to “Andromedia’s Clublane Park” to see “Allister Wetland”. Wow what a sound. He does cover songs but spins his own unique sound in. I liked this sound because it was unique and in SL I think a rarity. He can really hit the Metallica sound and he made my toes curl in total delectation when playing “Enter Sandman”. I did get to talk to Allister and his wonderful manager “Ocean Mureaux”, after the show. They have a romance that every woman dreams of. It’s a love dream between performer and manager that you just hate to wake from in the morning. I think I may have even had some feelings of jealousy in speaking with them. They really love each other even more than the music. Allister performs original songs that both him and Ocean have written for each other. You can feel the warm and fuzzy feeling from Allister’s music almost as much as when you talk to them about how they feel for each other. Allister found his musical beginnings in real life at a rather young age stating “In RL I started stealing pots and pans from the kitchen to make drums when I was two”. He had a grade 8 conservatory training in Clarinet from his school years and won a scholarship with which he used to buy an electric guitar (thank you for giving up clarinet). Here he is, now years later titillating our hearts with one great soul refreshing rock sound. He has now been in SL for about 14 months. He loves his SL career almost as much as he loves his Ocean. For Allister she is one vast Ocean as well, but then again most of us women are and that’s why we are loved by the men that fall for us.
Rumors that they will be meeting in RL over the summer of 2009 have been confirmed by Allister and Ocean themselves. Ocean is counting down the days and is so excited. Sorry ladies he is taken but he still promises to perform for you if you ask him……………….. in concert only, if you come out to hear him. What a performance it is though. So don’t forget to bring a change of clothes becasue his performance is orgasmic.
When asked what 3 artists had the biggest effect on his music he quickly replied, as if he knew the question was coming. He stated Edward Van Halen, Joe Satriani and Jimi Page. He then went on to tell me that his RL brother was the one who made him want to be a guitar player in the first place. When he was young his brother, who was a semi professional folk guitar player, would play around the campfire at family events. So it’s in the genes to play music for this rock phenomenon. He wanted to be just like him (his brother) because everyone enjoyed it so much. Then again who doesn’t enjoy great guitar around a campfire with some smores.
Allister admits he is a frostbitten Toronto boy and pale…very pale. Check out his website at: http://www.myspace.com/AllisterWestland and get out to see him with some friends to hear a great sound.
Well after my experience with Allister I hopped on my teleporter and asked Scotty to beam me on over to “Calidora to The Gaslight Live Music Venue” to check out “Jamba Losangeles”I woud have to say one of the most talented musicians I have heard in SL. He played with great poise. He engaged the crowd and wow could he kick it with that guitar and harmonica. If I didn’t know any better I would say this was Neil Young performing, bar none. I highly suggest looking him up and checking out a show or two. I know I am going back for more.
I had to check out Trippy Vibes from and urge in my heart as they were putting on a 3 day Benefit concert with which I zipped in an out of all weekend. I was treated on one particular performer I want to mention here. His name is “Artel Brando”. I want you to remember this name. I have to say of all the rockers i have seen he had the most style. He put on a fantastic show. I wouldn’t say he was the best musician or singer or dancer, but he did it all very well. The thing that brought it all together was he reached me. Artel reached me on a personal level. I am not sure if it was because this was a benefit show or what, but I was mesmerized by his on stage performance. He has a way with the ladies so wear button flys if you go in jeans ladies.
He has snappy jazzy rock style and a cute southern accent. He had something that could only be explained as a “Bou-Ya” type of Zen quality that sooths you as a member of the audience. He performed a high quality show from Zepplin, Floyd and many more. He even threw in a few love songs. I really enjoyed my time at this show.
This benefit show was brought together for a woman named Lissette who was in a diving accident in November of 2005 suffering a spinal cord injury leaving her confined to a wheel chair without the ability to move her legs. She currently is in a program called “Project Walk” www.projectwalk.org based out of Southern California and resides in Mexico. The program costs an extremely large sum of money each month and she has had to start and stop the program on multiple occasions due to financial restraints. So if you want to donate feel free to check out her website.
On to my Club Review Section:
Gears Club and Shopping District - PlethoraIt’s been newly remodeled and ready for your pleasure. I spoke personally with “Laryn Teardrop” one of 5 owners and got a look at this club through her eyes.
Laryn and her group of owners consisting of four other wanted to get this club up and running. They have a great list of popular and experienced DJs and Hosts that will they are counting on being a draw. So far, it’s worked she says. They are getting vendors who come to the shows and hear the DJs, see the awesome layout, and want they seem to want to be a part of it. They have a great collection of people on their board of directors, as well as on their staff. The personalities they have on staff sets them apart from other places because of their experience. They all have a lot of experience and know how to work the crowd, taking requests and interacting. The hosts are great about greeting and keeping conversation up. It’s more of a dance club and at this point, the plan is to keep the DJ/host set up they may add dancers, but that would be in the future. They are focused on getting familiar with each other as a family and making you feel a part of that with them. They create a level of comfort with the VIPs that make you want to come back. There is one particular DJ who really has a unique style and he is Dresden Sak. I really enjoyed his spin on things 
They do still have some stores available in their shop & boutique area which is amazing since they just opened Friday night. Interested vendors should contact Dresden Sak. When I aksed about scheduled events Laryn stated they don’t have events scheduled. It’s about the music. We want people to come here and enjoy the atmosphere with their friends. I thought Gears seemed to have a 21st century American Bandstand feeling. When I asked Laryn about it she didn’t necessarily think so, “but everyone’s going to feel something different about it” she stated. They have gotten a LOT of compliments on the build and are very pleased with it. She says “Being open cuts down on the lag, and the amphitheatre-type style keeps the focus on the DJ and host”. They are working on negotiations for audio promotions. The Gears family is one that was brought together with a common goal to entertain the masses and to bring them INTO the Gears family. It is a comfortable and friendly place for people to relax and enjoy themselves. They are not an escort club, so they won’t be setting that up. Both men and women should come to Gears expecting great music and fun personalities.Laryn states that she would like to stress that Gears is a place to let your hair down. They have a family atmosphere, a cool look, and great DJs and hosts. We welcome everyone.
